This #43Artists group show was never intended to be an alternative during the current virus-avoiding lockdown and the lack of physical gallery shows and white walls and open doors and the noise of opening night gatherings that we’re already missing, on line shows have always been viewed as an addition to what we do at Cultivate, a side-serving if you will, a way to break out beyond London in terms of viewers, visitors and the artists invited to feature. #43Artists was something we were planning anyway.
#43Artists is the seventh on-line show from Cultivate and we think the 154th Cultivate show since that infamous Netll Market takeover here in East London back in the summer of 2011 that kicked it all off just before we opened that space in the middle of the very much missed Vyner Street (we think the number is something like 154 shows anyway, we might have missed on or two)..
This then is #43Artists, a carefully curated group show, there is no theme to #43Artists, the show is simply a case of Emma and I inviting some of our fellow artists or selecting (from the open call element of the show – open calls are an important part of what we do, new artistic blood must always flow, of the 41 invited artists, eight came in via an open call, the rest were by personal invite).
Please do try and view this on a proper sized computer screen rather than a tiny phone, please do use the links, and please do take care out there during these very strange times where it may feel a little trivial to be talking and sharing art, yet somehow it feels a little more important than it ever was – right now sharing positive creativity feels more important than ever, please do enjoy exploring the art, be well out there, take care and thank you. (sw).
Please click on an image to enlarge or to run the hopefully well “hung” slide show that should make you want to view it in the order it was put together
