Today’s Slice Of Art, we did say we would do this, maybe not every single day, more often than not though, there can never be too much art on these pages, here comes another slice…

A simple feature, just an almost daily slice of the art posted. Some days it might be a piece of art from someone we’ve been regularly covering on these pages (and maybe working with in terms of Cultivate), other days it might be something by an (almost) household name, on other days it might be a piece of art by someone who work we hadn’t known until the day we posted it.

Today we feature a piece by a rather deliciously painting by Miranda Boulton that you can see and that I appreciated a lot more after seeing it for real in Plumbline of a Dancer, the current show at London’s Terrace Gallery.

Miranda Boulton – Resonance – oil and acrylic spray paint on canvas, 60x50cm, 2026

The painting is called Resonance, a painting from this year (2026) that is a mix of oil and acrylic spray paint on canvas, it measures 60x50cm, it seemed bigger on the gallery wall.

About the artist: “Miranda Boulton (b. 1973) is a contemporary British painter who lives in Cambridge with a studio in London. Boulton’s practice explores ideas around memory and time. Her work is questioning what it means to be a woman artist and feminist exploring floral painting. Challenging conventional perceptions of flowers, her paintings resist the delicacy traditionally associated with flower painting, they are not fragile, but confrontational, in a state of becoming, their surfaces registering both vitality and decay. Her gestural brushwork evokes the cellular energy of plantlife, cyclical processes of growth, transformation and dissolution.Boulton paints from memories of her extensive research of the floral still life genre, recollections emerge, overlap and recede in the process of painting. She combines the traditions of Still Life painting and Abstraction within her mix of vigorous and delicate marks. Her rich, colourful, impasto oil paintings are expressively redefining contemporary floral painting”. Her solo exhibition Chain of Flowers is currently on at Norwich Castle Museum and Art Gallery (May 16th to 6th December 2026).
