Today’s Slice Of Art, we did say we would do this, maybe not every single day, more often than not though, there can never be too much art on these pages, here it comes again…
A simple thing, just an almost daily slice of the art posted (no way am I committing to doing it every day, I’m busy making art and a million other things). Some days it might be a piece of art from someone we’ve been regularly covering on these pages (and maybe working with in terms of Cultivate), other days it might be something by an (almost) household name, on other days it might be a piece of art by someone who work we hadn’t known until the day we posted it, Today we feature another painting that we happen to catch in a group show in London’s Cork Street at Flowers Gallery last week, here’s a bit from that review…
“…There’s a delightful little (in terms of size, far from little in terms of anything other than size) piece by Tom Phillips, something called The Road to Alice Springs, an oil paint and collage piece on board (11x14cm) that dates from 2012″
Seems that back at the start of this century Tom Phillips created a series of oil collages from tiny fragments of used disposable paint palettes. “These palettes were cut and constructed in the manner of the micro-mosaics of Italian ‘pietra dura’ work…”
“The jewel-like pieces were reassembled with great care in The Road to Alice Springs, 2012, forming an abstract sun-drenched landscape inspired by the highway in the Australian Outback”.

Flowers Cork Street is found at 21 Cork Street, London, W1S 3LZ. The Gallery is open Monday to Saturday, 10am until 6pm. The Seeking New Landscapes exhibition runs until 8th August 2026.
